D&D KM-IT is a web-based knowledge management information tool custom-built for the deactivation and decommissioning user community. D&D KM-IT provides a single point of access to D&D technologies, vendors, subject matter specialists, question and answer hotline, document library, and more. Also, recently launched, is the D&D KM-IT's mobile module.
WIMS displays the waste forecast data for DOE sites across the complex. Waste forecast volumes, waste types, and disposition pathways are shown in data table, disposition map, and GIS map formats. The data can be filtered by generation site, disposal site, waste type, and years.
A robotics technology database provides a single point of access to browse and search all of the robotic technologies for applicability to a D&D related activity. Users can access technology descriptions, benefits, limitations, photographs, videos, data specification sheets, vendor descriptions and contact information.
The D&D Fixatives module can assist in the selection of fixatives, strippable coatings, and decontamination gels for application during D&D activities. The module includes a comprehensive database of commercially available fixatives and other contamination control products and is capable of filtering and sorting the available products according to the criteria entered by the user.
This is the primary communication tool between DOE-EM and FIU's Applied Research Center and contains presentations, reports, and other deliverables in the following five principle areas: Waste Processing, Deactivation and Decommissioning, Soil and Groundwater, Knowledge Base for Environmental Management, and Workforce Development.
DOE-EM and FIU-ARC designed to create a �pipeline� of minority engineers specifically trained and mentored to enter the Department of Energy workforce in technical areas of need.
The KBEM provides a common interface for all IT applications for DOE EM developed and maintained by the Applied Research Center at Florida International University. The Knowledge Base for Environmental Management (KBEM) provides a unified system of knowledge management (community of knowledge) for the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE EM) and includes the following major areas: Deactivation and Decommissioning (D&D), Soil and Groundwater (S&GW), Waste Processing, and International Knowledge Management.

The Applied Research Center at Florida International University is performing research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Y-12 National Security Site via numerical modeling of the fate and transport of inorganic and organic pollutants of concern with a focus on mercury in the surface domain (rivers and overland flow) and saturated/unsaturated groundwater zones.
FIU, in collaboration with DOE's Moab Site project director, has utilized an existing groundwater numerical model to evaluate the tailings pore-water seepage to assist in effective dewatering of the tailings pile and to optimize the groundwater extraction well field as part of the DOE Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) for the Moab site. The objective of this model is to analyze the nitrogen and uranium cycle in the environment and provide forecasting capabilities for the fate and transport of contamination within the Moab site and to provide information which can be used to determine the efficiency of remedial actions in reducing the concentration and load of contaminants and to assist DOE in deciding the effectiveness of remedial actions.
The International KM-IT is being developed to provide a global collaboration system and knowledge base the international community. The system will be developed in conjunction with DOE-EM International Program, and collaboration from UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Sellafield Site. This system will provide a secured private collaborative environment for the international community where data, knowledge, technologies, and know-how can be shared among participating countries.
